Designed with care for both climate, nature, and future residents, the construction of 96 rowhouses in Bakkekvarteret, Vinge, is now underway.
Yesterday marked the groundbreaking for the first 38 homes in the newly developed neighbourhood, Bakkekvarteret. Resource awareness, community, and architectural quality go hand in hand in the development of a vibrant new district in Frederikssund Municipality.
Footprint under 5 kg CO₂e per m²/year
We have designed 88 of the homes with a clear ambition to minimise their environmental impact, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculations have guided the design throughout the process.
Preliminary calculations show a CO₂ footprint of just 4.95 kg CO₂e per square metre per year* – significantly lower than the upcoming legal limits in Denmark for newly built rowhouses.
This achievement is the result of a holistic approach, where material selection and quantities, durability, and construction principles have been carefully considered from the outset. Screw piles, timber slab foundations, and cellulose insulation are just some of the solutions that support the ambition to build high-quality homes with a minimal climate footprint.
Nature as a foundation for active community
Bakkekvarteret is not simply built in nature, but with nature. The natural contours and character of the landscape have played a central role in decisions about the placement and connection of the residential units.
The rowhouses, ranging from 55 to 100 m², are organised into small clusters. Meandering green paths and outdoor community spaces create natural transitions between private and shared areas, encouraging both intimacy and community.
These paths and outdoor spaces follow the terrain’s natural movements, and several of the homes will be built on screw piles to minimise unnecessary impact on the landscape.
Pre-Certified Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Ready by 2026
All 88 homes are pre-certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, ensuring high environmental standards and a healthy indoor climate. The 38 homes now under construction represent the first phase of Bakkekvarteret, developed by Ikano Bolig. The first residents are expected to move in by 2026.
*The LCA has been carried out in accordance with the calculation requirements set out in the BR25 regulations, which come into effect on July 1, 2025.
