Six story hybrid-timber housing block rising in Copenhagen

Construction is well underway on a six-story timber-hybrid townhouse on Østerbrogade 190 – the first building in Scandinavia built using the CREE system. While modest in scale, the project signals the beginning of a new direction for construction in the Nordics: a smarter and faster method that reduces both material waste and emissions.

Developed by Austrian company CREE, the system is a modular technology that combines prefabricated timber and concrete elements. By moving much of the process off-site, it achieves higher precision, quicker assembly and less waste. Scalable up to 30 stories, it’s designed to make the most of each material: timber for low lifecycle emissions and lightness, concrete and steel for structural resilience.

At Østerbrogade 190, we’ve reinterpreted the classic Copenhagen townhouse with a calm, tactile façade and recessed windows. Inside, exposed timber structures and generous glazing create warm, open living spaces. The building will offer 20 residences – fourteen one-room and six two-room units – all laid out to maximise usable space and daylight. At street level, a café will invite people in, while a new public garden will wrap around the building.

We expect to top out later this fall, with completion planned for spring 2026.
