The Skywalk of the Niels Bohr building is now in place

The Skywalk of the Niels Bohr Building, 39 metres long and weighing 120 tonnes, was lifted into place between the two building sections at third-floor level, on each side of Jagtvej in Copenhagen this weekend.

The Skywalk will, together with the planned public bicycle and pedestrian connection under Jagtvej, connect the two buildings and coherence in the large laboratory and educational building, the Niels Bohr Building.

The whole session lasted just under an hour and was done in one synchronous lifting by two large cranes, each weighing 96 tonnes. During the actual lifting, the Skywalk was already partially outfitted with glass facades, roof, and undersurface.

The undersurface of the Skywalk is decorated by artist Malene Bach, with a color composition that is based on the final geometry and transparency of the facade. The same composition can be rediscovered on the floor in the final design.

The last third of the facades facing both building sections will be mounted from scaffolding at Jagtvej.
