A new Copenhagen residential development takes shape

At a former industrial site in Copenhagen’s Nordvest area, a new residential and urban development project is taking shape, designed with the ambition of bringing the neighbourhood together. The project takes part of the district’s remarkable transformation and will introduce a public space, café and grocery store as well as 51 new homes.

With the ground floor now completed, all 30 apartments released in the first phase have already been sold. The development comprises 51 apartments in total, ranging from two to five rooms, offering a contemporary take on urban living, thoughtfully designed to balance the private, the semi-private and the public. To create tranquil surroundings with generous amounts of daylight, the main living areas, balconies and a shared rooftop terrace are oriented away from the busy road Frederiksborgvej.

The ambition is to create new homes that not only add to the city, but also actively contribute to it. In dialogue with local residents, it became clear that the neighbourhood lacked a place where residents and neighbours could have a break from traffic and the city’s bustle. Therefore, the building opens towards south with a café and a public space, creating a sunlit oasis in the city.

In just a few years, Nordvest has evolved from an industrial area into a vibrant urban district of Copenhagen with places for locals and visitors alike to gather. Drawing on the area’s industrial heritage, the building’s distinctive roof is a reference to the structures of the former factories, while also providing extra ceiling height for the upper-floor apartments.

The project is being developed in collaboration with developer AKF and is expected to achieve the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, DGNB Gold, DGNB Diamond and DGNB Heart certification.
