From Industry to Green Neighbourhood in Rødovre

177 new rental homes in Rødovre town centre will support the municipality’s new urban renewal plan. Topdanmark Ejendom is investing in the new project, Karrébyen, which will be designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects.

On the site of a former industrial area just north of Rødovre Town Hall, a new 16,000 m² residential neighbourhood, Karrébyen, will take shape. The 177 new rental homes will transform the old industrial quarter into a green and vibrant district not far from Damhussøen, as part of the municipality’s urban renewal strategy.

In collaboration with Rødovre Municipality and investor Topdanmark Ejendom – part of the pension and insurance group Topdanmark – Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects will design the new homes.

“The municipality has created an ambitious plan for urban renewal, and the aim is for Karrébyen to become a new, lively and urban area. The buildings will be constructed in durable, high-quality materials, and the facades will feature architectural variation. Each stairwell will have its own identity within a design expression that fits the surrounding area,” says Torsten Stephensen, Partner at Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects.

All apartments will be oriented towards the surrounding streets and a central, active courtyard. They will range in size from two to six rooms, appealing to a broad mix of residents, both young and old.

The partners aim for the new homes to be sustainable enough to meet the requirements for the DGNB Gold sustainability certification.

Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2020.
