DTU Biosustain inagurated
Thursday 17 November His Royal Highness Prince Joachim cut the ribbon for the new Building 220 at The Technical University of Denmark (DTU). In the future, the building will accommodate The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability – DTU Biosustain.
The sun lit up the large golden atrium in Building 220 when HRH Prince Joachim entered. The occasion for the royal visit was the official inauguration of The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability – DTU Biosustain – at the DTU Campus in Lyngby.
Among the several prominent speakers were the Minister for Higher Education and Science, Ulla Tørnæs, and chair of The Novo Nordisk Foundation, Sten Scheibye, together with the President of DTU, Anders Bjarklev, and CEO of DTU Biosustain, Bernhard Palsson. The speeches focused among other things on the framework and the architecture, and in addition, the collaboration was praised.
‘Congratulations to DTU and to all of us, who will benefit from the groundbreaking results’, Ulla Tørnæs ended her speech.
After the speeches, HRH Prince Joachim cut the ribbon with a large golden pair of scissors and officially inaugurated Building 220. Afterwards, the Prince, the Minister, and other prominent guests were shown around the building. The day was rounded off with a reception for both external guests, associates of the center, and employees.
DTU Biosustain – Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, which in the future will accommodate more than 200 employees from DTU Biosustain, measures 12,300m2 and contains among other things advanced research labs for biotechnological research. The vision was to support the feeling of proximity and accessibility between the research units, even though they are spread over six stories – and to create a ground floor functioning as an inner street, containing shared facilities for both the research center and the students and employees of DTU.
The large building project was completed in less than two years, which has been possible not least because of the constructive collaboration between all parties during the process.
