Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects has won the competition of the new International School at Carlsberg City District

Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects has won the turnkey contract competition of the new European School Copenhagen at Carlsberg City District in collaboration with NORD, BAM Denmark, and EKJ.

The future European School, with a total of 14,000m2, will be a modern version of a school situated between old landmark buildings of high architectural quality, referring architecturally to the historic surroundings and with a central location at Carlsberg City District.

The European School Copenhagen will be an international public school in Copenhagen, consisting of a school, leisure facilities, sports hall and open-air areas, and a department of the internationally recognized Sankt Annæ Gymnasium. This will create an international school with a strong profile in languages, science, and music, with the right setting for friendships and networking across local and international families.

A European school in Copenhagen has been on the wish list of both politicians and the business world of the capital for long, as it will be able to attract international labor. Carlsberg City District is the client, and the Municipality of Copenhagen, Realdania, the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the Nordea Foundation, and The Danish Industry Foundation will fund the project.

The assessment committee of the competition has emphasized that the architectural expression is deliberate, consistent, and fits into Carlsberg City District.
