Originally produced in 1941 to be placed alongside the curved wall surrounding the concert hall on the first floor of the Radio House's main building. The bench served as a social meeting place for Radio House's guests as they entered the building. In this way, the furniture remains a prime example of Danish functionalism, where form follows function. This particularly showcases Vilhelm Lauritzen's expertise as a furniture designer and architect.
VLA75 is part of the Foyer series, exclusively created for the Radio Building in Copenhagen by Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1945. The series includes the bench, a chair, and a sofa. All three are characterized by the harmonious interplay between solid oak, delicate design, and soft upholstery. With a solid oak frame, the seat covered in leather of various variants with hand-sewn buttons, the bench exudes a timeless, elegant, and refined expression.
The series was relaunched in 2022 by Carl Hansen & Son in collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects.
