European School selected for exhibition in Berlin

The Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin is currently focusing on the schools of the future with the exhibition ZUKUNFT Schulbau – Europäische Beispiele zeitgemäßer Schularchitektur (“Future School Buildings – European Examples of Contemporary School Architecture”). The exhibition presents 12 new European schools under the theme “Future School Buildings”, among them the European School in the Carlsberg City District.

In the coming years, German schools will see significant development – particularly in urban areas where pupil numbers are set to increase steadily. In Berlin alone, there will be 70,000 more schoolchildren by 2024/25 compared to today. This creates a great need to build new schools and to develop existing ones to meet demographic changes.

For this reason, Aedes Architecture Forum has showcased 12 European schools, all of which are situated in an urban context. The European School was selected for its focus on learning landscapes around the school, its historical setting in the Carlsberg City District, and its interaction with the local community. The school was inaugurated in autumn 2018 and is located in the historic brewery quarter of Carlsberg City, with the Twisted Chimney and Franciska Clausen Square as its closest neighbours. The school houses classes from reception (year 0) through to the final year of upper secondary (year 13).

The exhibition runs until 8 August.
