The final rafter has just been raised on Skovskolen’s new building, located in the middle of the forest near Nødebo. The school is part of the University of Copenhagen and focuses particularly on programmes centred around nature.
“We have succeeded in creating a building placed right in the middle of the forest without clearing a large number of trees to make space. All communal areas and rooms face the forest edge, and the shared kitchens have large windows opening onto the terrace. This brings the forest right inside,” says Michael Schytt Poulsen, Associate Partner at Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects.
The 660 m² timber building will be home to 20 students, who are expected to move in after the summer holidays.
The building is constructed as a two-storey timber house, with each floor containing a communal kitchen and dining area facing south. On the ground floor, a large shared terrace has been created in direct connection to the kitchen. With its vertical black wooden slats, the exterior clearly references the surrounding buildings.
