Today, Novozymes officially opened its new Innovation Campus in Lyngby, which will serve as a global hub for the company’s research and business development. The building is designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects in collaboration with Rambøll and GHB Landscape Architects.
Situated on a 140,000 m² natural site, the 30,000 m² office and research facility was formally inaugurated by Novozymes CEO Peder Holk Nielsen, Lyngby-Taarbæk Mayor Sofia Osmani, and a group of local school pupils. The new complex will be a cornerstone of Novozymes’ international innovation and development, housing 800 employees.
The Innovation Campus is integrated sensitively into the surrounding landscape. Facades of light, sandstone-coloured brick give the buildings a calm, cohesive presence in the terrain.
“From the outset, nature has been central to the project. We have carefully integrated a very large complex into a natural setting, ensuring the design reflects the site and the essence of Novozymes. The result is a simple, Nordic style in natural materials like brick and wood, with the buildings opening towards the landscape,” says Thomas West Jensen.
Four-square structure for a vibrant work environment
The building consists of four squares meeting at their corners, housing laboratories, offices, and individual atria. At ground level, the main entrance, reception, meeting centre, canteen, and multi-purpose hall form a lively hub for staff and visitors. A central spine runs throughout the campus, bringing the spaces together, guiding movement, and offering coffee stations and informal meeting areas.
“We are incredibly proud to have contributed to this project. The campus has been shaped through an exceptionally collaborative process, with users at its heart. The aim was to create a functional office and research facility that reflects Novozymes as a global company while caring for the individual,” says Thomas West Jensen, partner at Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and design lead.
Open campus park for the community
The Innovation Campus is surrounded by a public campus park with nature trails, outdoor spaces, and planned recreational activities. Nearby, the Novo Nordisk Foundation is developing LIFE, a science learning centre where students and schoolchildren will be invited to explore nature and science.
