Politiken awards DTU Biosustain four hearts

"A new era begins with the golden building, which will attract top researchers and bring prestige and sex appeal to the hard sciences."

In today’s edition, Politiken awards DTU Biosustain – Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability – four hearts for the "surprisingly delightful building."

Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, in close collaboration with the client, users, and contractors, has created a building with professionally stimulating surroundings. The architecture supports a sense of closeness and accessibility between the various research units, and the basement functions as an internal promenade with shared facilities for both the research centre and DTU’s students and staff. A unified vision for a new, world-class research centre has thus been achieved.

This is also something the reviewer notes:

"They have managed to attract leading international research talent, and the Novo Nordisk Foundation has invested in the building … Inside, there is a fluid transition between laboratories and offices across a series of bright atriums. Transparency in daily life has become common practice, even in secret research laboratories. By contrast, Koppel’s buildings offered dark corridors and closed doors. Here, there are glass walls and views between floors."

DTU Biosustain, DTU’s first high-rise building, was completed in under two years and was inaugurated last week by HRH Prince Joachim and former Minister for Higher Education and Science, Ulla Tørnæs.
