From the turn of the year, STED By og landskab will become part of Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, one of Denmark’s largest architectural practices. The ambition is to create even greater architectural quality across building design, urban planning, and landscape architecture, and to meet the demand for integrated, independent consultancy.
Projects such as Kronholm in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn and the Steno Diabetes Centre in Herlev have exemplified this collaboration. Since 2015, Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and STED have worked together on a series of tasks and competition proposals, ranging from complex projects like a new island and a diabetes hospital, to housing developments and masterplans. The two parties are now united in a shared vision of creating an integrated partnership that enhances professional expertise and the architect’s role as an independent adviser.
“For us, this partnership is both natural and positive. We share a visionary yet humble approach to our profession, rooted in the belief that sustainable architecture is site-specific, timeless, and durable. Now we have the opportunity to blur professional boundaries and create a holistic narrative between landscape and building,” say Rosa Lund and Martin Hjerl, partners and owners of STED.
In a sector increasingly characterised by large-scale consolidations and with developers seeking interdisciplinary, integrated solutions, the two companies also believe this integration addresses market demands while preserving independent consultancy.
“With STED, we want to establish a professional platform that spans urban planning, architecture, and landscape. We have seen growing demand for cross-disciplinary solutions, particularly regarding climate and sustainability, where indoor and outdoor spaces are interconnected. We are truly excited about this new partnership,” says Gyrithe Saltorp, CEO of Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects.
Greener Cities and Greater Architectural Quality For STED, this integration follows years of successful collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, which has already proven its value. In a number of joint projects, landscape architecture and holistic planning have contributed to better urban development, greener cities, and higher architectural quality.
“We look forward to joining the team at Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and becoming part of a larger company with talented colleagues and an organisation with 100 years of experience. This adds robustness and a more holistic dimension to our professional work,” say Martin Hjerl and Rosa Lund.
STED will retain its own brand, and ongoing and upcoming projects will continue under its name.
