As one of only three Danish projects, the newly built hospital in Herlev, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC), is in the running for a 2022 MIPIM Award – one of the industry’s most prestigious international accolades.
The recently inaugurated diabetes hospital has been selected from among 171 projects across 42 countries and nominated as one of three finalists in the “Best Healthcare Development” category. The vision behind the project is to redefine how we perceive healthcare architecture. Here, the interaction between nature and architecture is intended to promote both physical and mental wellbeing, while users can transform waiting time into active time in one of the gardens or on the publicly accessible rooftop terrace.
SDCC was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and Mikkelsen Architects, with STED By- og Landskab as landscape architects, and COWI as the lead consultant. The developers behind the project are the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the Capital Region of Denmark, and Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen.
The awards will be presented from 15–18 March in Cannes at the MIPIM conference, the world’s largest real estate event.
