Culture and meeting centre in Spandau combines sustainability and community
The upcoming cultural and meeting centre at Westerwaldstraße in Spandau will create a unique setting that combines urban life and nature, while strengthening the social and recreational qualities of the area. The project is built around a sustainable strategy that focuses on the reuse and upcycling of local materials. This will reduce the need for new resources and support a circular economy. Recycled elements are integrated in a way that both respects the history of the area and contributes to a lower carbon footprint, supporting the sustainable development of Spandau.
A landscape as a social and inclusive hub
The landscape design plays a central role in the project, where the green spaces and recreational zones around the cultural centre will invite all age groups to stay and be active. From youth theatre and senior club to neighbourhood café, the physical environment is designed to promote natural interaction and community. The open foyer, which opens up to the landscape, will allow visitors to both experience and engage with the green urban space, which will be an important catalyst for community in Spandau.
The building's staggered volumes and the open, transparent facade will create a welcoming expression towards Westerwaldplatz and tie the cultural centre closely to the surrounding urban area. The open landscape and recreational zones will form a vital connection between building and city and become a vibrant element of Spandau's urban fabric. The project will become a natural destination in the neighbourhood and an important part of the social and recreational development.
With a focus on sustainability, community and urban life, the project will create an inspiring green focal point that integrates harmoniously into the urban environment while contributing to the positive development of Spandau. The landscape will act as a catalyst for social interactions and become a key element in the city's continued growth.
