Contemporary spaces in historic building

The Saint Petri Passage building complex in the heart of inner Copenhagen is a gathering point for a number of Danish and international companies such as Google Denmark, Karnov Group, Redbull Denmark and KVUC.

The transformation of the historic Copenhagen property to modern and contemporary premises was carried out with the aim of preserving the historic expression and quality of the buildings.

Stairwells and the existing ornate ceilings were lovingly renovated and today stand as a highlighted quality of the building.

The complex comprises 14 buildings with a total floor space of 45,000 m2, mainly built with red tile in national romantic style with decorative details.

Prior to the transformation, Saint Petri Passage was a large enclosed area that has now been opened and made publicly available. In one of the former courtyards, a canteen with overlying roof terrace has been established for KVUC.

Authority requirements for fire and access conditions were incorporated without significant intervention in the building body.

The historic facility was originally built in 1909 as the domicile of the telephone company KTAS (today TDC), where it was named Telefonhuset (meaning ‘The Telephone House’). The new name refers to the neighboring Saint Petri Church. In a now demolished building in the complex, the Danish physicist H.C Ørsted discovered electromagnetism in 1820, which is also indicated on a commemorative plaque.
