'2860 Søborg' was probably Denmark's best-known postcode from the 1960s until the turn of the millennium. With the arrival of television in Denmark, the space in the Radiohuset in Frederiksberg became too tight and DR wanted to move the growing TV production out to the suburbs. A competition was announced which Vilhelm Lauritzen's studio won. In 1964, the first TV studio in Søborg was put into use and TV-Byen grew with television studios, workshops, costume warehouses, garages, canteens and not least DR's new landmark – the iconic 14-storey high-rise, which was completed in 1970.
