Vega Chair

From the House of the People to our home

The Vega chair is Danish design at its best. It has Vilhelm Lauritzen's clear signature - a functionalist design that is almost effortlessly simple and timeless, but still with a very clear character.

Vilhelm Lauritzen’s lightweight and stackable Vega chair from 1956 will now become part of Carl Hansen & Søn’s collection of design classics. The chair, which has previously only been found in Vega’s rooms, will thus be available to a wider audience for the first time.

The Vilhelm Lauritzen signature design

Vilhelm Lauritzen's uncompromising attention to detail is also evident in the stackable Vega Chair, which comes in an elegant material mix of steel, wood and textile or leather. The precise upholstery on the seat and back gives the chair a sleek and refined look. For a more pared-down look, the chair is also produced without upholstery, bringing the tactile oak into full focus.

The dynamic curve of the chair's back gives it a distinctive look, and the legs are elegantly finished with wooden feet that add an extraordinary touch of craftsmanship.

The story behind

Originally created by Vilhelm Lauritzen as an all-encompassing meeting place for the labour movement, Vega was converted into a concert house in 1996 after an extensive restoration and has since set the tone for Copenhagen's cultural life.

Vilhelm Lauritzen designed everything for the modernist building with great perfectionism - from chairs, tables, wooden panels, friezes and chandeliers to light fittings, door handles and socket outlets. For Vilhelm Lauritzen, it was the small details that made the big difference and created the whole.

Re-design 1956-2022
"The Vega Chair is Danish design at its best. It has Vilhelm Lauritzen's clear signature - a functionalist design that is almost effortlessly simple and timeless, but still with a very clear character. The chair has the classic uncompromising Lauritzen details and is so well-proportioned that you simply just sit comfortably in it. In collaboration with Carl Hansen & Søn, we are proud that the Vega Chair can now be put into production in the quality it deserves.”
